Finding Stylish Shoes for Troubled Feet
I was in my early 40's when I first started to have foot trouble that threatened not just my comfort but my style. With painful neuroma's, falling arches, and even a bout of Plantar Fasciitis I found it nearly impossible to find fashionable footwear that allowed me to walk in comfort. I'm still researching great options but wanted to share a few of my findings with you.
Unfortunately, there is no magic shoe that fits all. You'll have to shop around to discover what works for your particular issues, but here are a few of my favorite brands for comfortable (but still stylish) footwear.
Munro Shoes have removable insoles and wider widths to make room for orthotic inserts. And even without inserts they are made with comfort in mind.
My favorite casual shoe of theirs is the Munro Traveler. This shoe has a microfiber stretch fabric that accommodates swelling of the feet without getting permanently stretched out of shape. And it comes in a variety of colors. I wore this shoe all over Paris a few years back and it supported me all the way. It is dressier than a running shoe and every bit as comfortable for touring on foot!
Naot has a wide range of shoes, boots and sandals that offer excellent built-in arch support. They come in wide widths, and a variety of footbeds (some are removable) and varying heel heights.
All my current sandals come from this company and I am constantly getting compliments on them. This pair is a special favorite because it has bling as well as the universally flattering diagonal strap.
The next offering might surprise you, because "Birkenstock" and "Stylish Shoe" are not usually used in the same sentence. But the Keppel leather flat shares the same comfortable (and removable) cork footbed as the sandal and looks way more stylish.
For Bunion sufferers, The Barking Dog has an excellent list of well-researched shoe options. I'll let you pop over there to check them out, but top on my list would be the Beautifeel Mystique Pump. In fact, I'm smitten with all the shoes made by this Israeli company.
Stylish Tennis shoes are trendy at the moment and are a great choice for more casual looks. Look for velveteen, suede, leather and metallic finishes as well as floral prints & embroidery detailing. This gold metallic shoe from Sooft has a comfort heel and removable footbed, perfect for your orthotics.
It may not be as easy as it used to be for you to find shoes that look and feel great. However, having the right shoes can make or break an outfit so it is definitely worth it to shop around until you find a shoe you truly love and a pair that will love you back!
We would love to hear about any comfortable, stylish shoes you'd recommend for your Season so please share your favorites in the comment section below.
